Entry #1

Where to begin? I guess a good place is always just to “begin” and this is truly a new thing for me, posting my writings online. Writing surely is not altogether new for me, although I am currently brushing away a decent accumulation of dust. It may be that this blogging thing is intended to fulfill some kind of purpose and therefore provide a clearer direction, or motivation, to return to the practice, and yes, there is truth to this, but it surely is not all of it. I have always enjoyed writing and have missed it recently as a daily practice. The thing is that writing is in no way my primary focus; that would be sculpture, obviously. Writing instead has been somewhat of an abstract practice for myself, penning down random thoughts or dreams or ideas, essentially taking on a role of navigation for my inner self, something I am sure no one would disagree with as an essential practice. I believe that this navigational role is so precious that it demands a return, in supplication to my sculptural practices. Thus, I begin something (sort of) new.

So, what purpose do I have here? It is actually very simple: contemplation. As my mind turns with ideas and revels in the experiences of my projects, I hope that this may serve as a place for these contemplations to live. They become something beyond myself and hopefully can serve as insight for others; but at the very least this will be a form of navigation as I continue along this journey of being a sculptor. Let’s just see where this leads, if anywhere at all.
